Updated: Dec 8, 2023

If you need an easy, healthy breakfast smoothie recipe that doesn't have 800 ingredients, this post is for you.

Why Smoothies are Great for Breakfast

Making the time to fuel yourself with a healthy breakfast in the morning is arguably one of the most important things you can do for yourself and for your health. You need protein, fat, fiber, & some greens in your meal to kickstart your day and keep you feeling satisfied and full all morning long. Save this healthy breakfast smoothie recipe for the next time you need an easy & nourishing breakfast. I even have this smoothie for lunch some days, too!

Why is this my new go-to breakfast smoothie recipe

Gone are the days that I can sleep in and make a 'real breakfast' like I used to before kids and an early morning routine. Now, I need recipes that I can make FAST and that will fill me up and make me feel energized.

If you only take on thing from my content, let it be THIS smoothie recipe. It is literally my go-to smoothie that I make almost every single morning. This smoothie is easy, healthy, and budget-friendly. You don't need a smoothie with 20 different ingredients. You only need one solid recipe that centers around protein, fat, fiber, and greens.

Different Protein Options for your Smoothies

A note on the protein that I use for my morning smoothies. Protein powders are plentiful out there. There are hundreds of different protein powders - plant based protein, whey protein, whey isolate protein, collagen protein...the list goes on and on. I'm going to recommend that you find a protein powder that you actually like the taste of, one that does not break the bank, and one that has little to no added sugar. Those are the 3 big rules for protein powder. This is the one that I have used for the last several years. KOS makes a smaller size I'd recommend trying first before buying the big boy one. Being able to get it on Amazon is very convenient, and it comes in many different flavors. This protein powder is plant based but soy-free. If you are vegan or if you are sensitive to dairy, this is a great protein option for you. Another option is this whey isolate protein powder by one of my favorite content creators, Autumn Bates. Side note - I learn SO much from her YouTube Channel. I just ordered her brand new protein powder that she created, but I have yet to try it. I will report back with a full post on how amazing it is at a later date.

Without further ado, here is the recipe for my go-to healthy morning smoothie:

Mixed Berry Smoothie

- 1 cup of fresh spinach
- 2 tbsp of natural peanut or almond butter (no added sugar)
- 1 tbsp of chia seeds
- 3-4 baby carrots
- 2 tbsp of plain, full fat greek yogurt
- 1/2c approx. of frozen mixed berries
- Unsweetened vanilla almond milk + water

Note: I use this Nutribullet Pro, but feel free to use whatever type of blender is available to you or your favorite. The ease of the nutribullet clean up is hard to beat.

Directions: Add in all ingredients into your blender. I like to start with the spinach and build on top of that. Add in almond milk and water to the fill line or to your liking. Too much liquid will make the smoothie more 'drinkable' or 'runny' not enough liquid will make it thicker like a smoothie bowl. Get it to your liking. Blend up & then enjoy!

Variations:
- Change up the kind of fruit you add in to mix up the flavor. I always have mixed berries on hand (which is a blend of frozen blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, & strawberries)
- Add in ground flaxseed for more fiber
- Alternate peanut butter or almond butter depending on your liking
- Add in a splash of your leftover cold coffee for a little kick
- Change the flavor of your protein powder for variety. I almost always use the chocolate, but try the vanilla, too!

Give this easy, healthy smoothie recipe a try for a super nourishing and super easy breakfast you can eat on the go.

If you know me, I tend to be a creature of habit. I enjoy this mixed berry smoothie almost every day for breakfast, and it's so easy and delicious that I repeat!
